With a population of about 420,000 inhabitants, Bristol is the largest city in the South West of England and the ninth biggest city in the country.

Although the city does not have a big centre, there are several areas in the city, especially around the docks, that are more than worth a visit.

One of the must-see-attractions of this city is - without any doubt - the Brunel's ss Great Britain, the world's first ocean-going steam ship (designed by Brunel). If you are in Bristol for a few days do not forget to visit this old vessel that was nominated UK museum of the year in 2007.

Other attractions include the Temple Meads Station that was designed by Brunel in the nineteenth century, which is a grandiose example of Victorian architecture and the Clifton village that, with its magnificent Victorian and Georgian buildings, represents the trendy area of the city and boasts some of the best pubs and restaurants.

Bristol is becoming extremely popular among the young people for its vibrant nigh life and music scene. The city has been home to artists such as Portishead, Tricky and Massive Attack that in the late nineties developed what is commonly known as the trip-hop scene.

Bristol has a very well developed and organized touristic infrastructure offering a wide range of quality accommodation; from fancy 4 and 5 star hotels to budget and friendly bed and breakfast Bristol has an accommodation offer that suits all tastes and pockets. Most of the hotels are located in the small centre or within a short distance of the city centre. Rooms in 2-3 star hotels are widely available. Hotel fares tend to be higher in the summers months.

If you decide to take a holiday in Bristol, a different but very recommendable alternative is to rent a car and book a room in one of the many hotel farms or rural cottages that are widely available in the country side. In these structures you will be able to find a room. Especially in the summer months booking well in advance is highly recommended as these accommodations are becoming extremely popular in the Bristol area.
