Tickets to Women’s Enterprise Day Celebration Lunch selling out fast

27th October, 2009. Tickets for the Women’s Enterprise Day lunch and awards ceremony are selling out fast, as supporters of women’s enterprise throughout the West band together to highlight their business achievements. The event, which is part of 2009 Global Entrepreneurship Week, is being jointly sponsored by Women of the West and the South West RDA (Regional Development Agency).
Television news presenter Sherrie Eugene will host the lunch and awards ceremony, where inspirational business leaders will be recognised in six categories based on their contribution to women’s enterprise. The keynote speaker is Kresse Wesling, Managing Director of EaKo, the environmental entrepreneur and one of the country’s leading businesswomen.
EaKo reclaims industrial and commercial waste, turns it into something of value, sells it and donates half its profits to charities operating within the waste sector. Kresse Wesling started the company after spotting the potential in some fire hose that the London Fire Brigade no longer needed and which would not degrade in land-fill. EaKo provided the solution – and developed its business model - by turning the unwanted hose into 500 belts.
“We are delighted that as a region the South West has the highest level of female entrepreneurship in the country1,” comments Wendy Matthews, Head of People and Employment at the South West RDA. “This event will not only celebrate the women entrepreneurs of today but will inspire many more to bring their ideas to reality.”
